What is SneakPeek Clincal?
SneakPeek Clinical is an early gender DNA detection test offered to women starting at 6 weeks in the pregnancy. An on-site certified and trained professional draws a blood sample in the comfort of the Mother Nurture Ultrasound facility, and then returns the sample to SneakPeek Labs for processing. The laboratories offer the fastest turnaround times in the industry; a 1-2 day turnaround. The concierge style of service even includes an email directly to you to report your result. The test can be packaged with follow up ultrasound session(s) to view your baby and provide images that you can take home.
Why do SneakPeek Clinical instead of the at home SneakPeek?
The at home SneakPeak test does not offer the same accuracy and results as the Clincal version. When performing your own at home test, the chance for contamination is extremely high; meaning if you have ANY male DNA in your home there is a high possibility of contamination during the sample collection. If contamination happens, your results will come back as boy, even if you are having a girl. At Mother Nurture Ultrasound, we have trained and certified professionals who have performed the collection method thousands of times and know how to avoid contamination. Also, we do not allow males in the room where the collection happens, meaning there is ZERO chance of contamination.
We take care of the dropping your samples off at a specific Fed Ex location that guarantees overnight shipping. When the sample arrive to the lab, SneakPeek prioritizes the Clinical sample so you receive the results faster than if you did the at home kit.
How Does SneakPeek Work?
In a natural process during pregnancy, fetal cells pass into the mother’s bloodstream from the placenta. As these cells break down, fetal DNA is released into the mother’s own circulatory system. SneakPeek utilizes this shared fetal DNA circulating inside the mother’s bloodstream. Our PCR technology has the ability to detect the presence or absence of male Y chromosome in the blood sample provided starting at 6 weeks into pregnancy. If it is detected then the baby’s gender is male and if it is not detected then the baby’s gender is female.
For twins, if the result comes back female, we know both babies are girls, if it comes back male, we only know for sure that one baby is a boy. The sex of the other baby would need to be determined by an ultrasound at 13 weeks.
How Accurate are the Results?
Under the conditions of the test being performed in a sterile environment, the accuracy rate at our facility is 100%. SneakPeek performed a blinded multi-center study in 2015 at four independent clinical sites to assess the performance of the Prenatal Gender Test. Venous blood samples were collected from women between 6 and 22 weeks gestation. The Prenatal Gender Test correctly identified fetal sex in all samples. Fetal sex for all samples was unknown prior to genetic testing and was confirmed via ultrasound at the end of the study. The tests yielded 99.9% accuracy for fetal sex identification.
How Will I Receive My Results?
When you come into the office the day of your appointment, you will fill out paperwork and give an email address to where you want the results sent. If you are having a gender reveal party you can have the results emailed to a friend. The results come directly from Sneak Peek. Sometimes the results will show up in your junk mail.
Please DO NOT contact Mother Nurture Ultrasound about your results, they will be emailed directly from Sneak Peek Clinical to the email address you put down.
If you have questions about results and/or delivery or to make changes to your contact information, please contact: clinicalsupport@gatewaygenomics.org
